Professor Alice Kongsted, a chiropractor and researcher at the University of Southern Denmark and Nordic Institute of Chiropractic and Clinical Biomechanics (NIKKB) has been awarded First Prize in the poster competition at the 10th Interdisciplinary Congress on Low Back Pain and Pelvic Girdle, held October 28-31 in Antwerp, Belgium.
"Are patients reassured in chiropractic consultations for back pain and does it help them to improve? A ChiCo cohort study" reported that patients were reassured from chiropractic consultations and that higher levels of reassurance result in improved patient outcomes.
The prize winning poster follows on from previous work undertaken by Professor Kongsted into the provision of reassurance to patients suffering from back pain (http://bit.ly/kongsted_CRQ). Reassuring information is recommended in clinical guidelines for the treatment of low back pain and helps patients modify damaging attitudes, beliefs and expectations about their condition.
