Spinal Tissue Loading Created by Different Methods of Spinal Manipulative Therapy Application In conclusion, this is the first study to show that SMT application method influences loads created in spinal tissues. Given our previous work showing that SMT creates forces that are unique from passive movements, it is possible that different SMT application techniques could be capable of eliciting unique outcomes in terms of effect and safety. These results may partially explain the variation in SMT outcomes observed in clinical trials.
